The Marrickville Tavern on Marrickville Road has unveiled its new look and is raising the bar for locals and sport enthusiasts. Sporting a complete glow-up, this small-but-mighty, legendary icon is embracing its storied legacy which has served the community since 1884, and delivering a distinctly modern sports bar vibe – proudly cheers-ing to “Pies, Pints and Punting”.
In a nod to local pride, the venue features a meandering mural that celebrates the career of Marrickville-born and raised boxing icon Jeff Fenech, affectionately known as the “Marrickville Mauler”. Personally signed by Fenech, this piece was crafted by artists Lara Allport (founder of The Drawing Arm) and Miguel Gonzalez (M-LON) and is a tribute to Fenech’s journey from local athlete to international champion.
Sports memorabilia including an IBF World Championship belt signed by Kostya Tzsyu adorn the walls, and a full size pool table takes pride of place below the state-of-the-art 3-metre LED screens with Bose sound system and subwoofers. In addition, there are 10 screens throughout the venue that will show all sports (with a priority on televising female sport) live and loud 24/7.
The go-to for all things sport, the Marrickville Tavern has already welcomed some of the area’s biggest sporting icons through its doors including Andy Bernal, Renee Gartner, Kostya Tzyu, Billy Dib and Milos Ninkovic.
On the pass, guests can grab a hearty pie (pepper steak, red wine lamb shank, chicken leek and mushroom) and pint of beer for just $16 all week, pre-game $7 beer and house wines from 4-6PM Monday – Friday, as well as post match $15 Margs and Negronis from 9-11PM on Friday and Saturdays. When it comes to drinks, renowned beverage consultant, Brendan Hill has curated a lineup of well-priced cocktails including espresso martinis, old fashioned and MT palomas.
To officially mark the Marrickville Tavern’s new look, the venue will be hosting a Super Bowl LIX Party on Monday, February 10th, from 10 AM. With a quick-fire Super Bowl Trivia post-match session hosted by Lavender Baj, look forward to $20 Budweiser Buckets (4x Bottles + 2 FREE Hotdogs) + $10 Loaded American style Hotdogs courtesy of Yummy Dogs, a chance to meet West Tigers legend Chris Lawrence plus prizes to be won including a replica Patrick Mahomes Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl LVII Champions Jersey!
