Tucked away in Prince Edward park and overlooking the bay, Angelo’s Cabarita has unveiled an impressive glow up under the new ownership from renowned restaurateur and hospitality tycoon, Deep Gujral. The once-was Italian restaurant has undergone a Hamptons-inspired makeover, leaning into its waterside position with a fresh and breezy ambiance to complement its new modern Australian menu.
With the new fresh look comes a new team and a refined menu crafted by head chef Dalton Fernandes and Nitin Dholam. With over a decade of global culinary expertise, Dalton comes most recently from Trippas White Group where he was head chef at Sydney Tower & The Crown. Alongside him, sous chef, Nitin Dholam has worked in renowned kitchens including Oncore by Clare Smyth in Crown Sydney and Sheraton Grand in Hyde Park.
The new menu shifts from traditional Italian cuisine to a contemporary Australian à la carte style, and features an abundance of fresh seafood, perfectly grilled meats and homemade pasta. Menu highlights include SA Scallop Gratin with Eureka lemon butter, Grilled Yamba Prawns with XO sauce, the Wagyu Brisket Ragu (MS4+) Casarecce ragu and Tassal Strahan Tasmanian Salmon with miso marinade. The drink menu is designed by Ross Anderson, Director of Global Fine Wine Challenge and rivals some of Sydney’s best. Working in collaboration with Masters of Wine from around the globe, Anderson has curated a selection that stands above the ordinary, with each wine selected to complement and elevate the dining experience. Rare and special museum wines from Australia, New Zealand and Italy including a 2012 Giovanni Rosso Cerretta Barolo, 2018 Penfolds RWT Shiraz and a 2015 Tolpuddle Chardonnay are a standout. The restaurant recently won a Wine Goblet in Australia’s Wine List of the Year Awards.
The wine experience at Angelo’s goes to another level, care of its in-premium Coravin system. This cutting-edge technology allows for wines to be served by the glass, without pulling the cork, guaranteeing each glass is as fresh and flavourful as if the bottle had just been opened, and allowing guests to access the entire menu.
Not skipping a beat, the slick cocktail menu boasts a range of zesty spritzes, including Aperol, Moulin Rouge, Amalfi, and Miss, alongside aptly named cocktails like Cabarita Sunrise and Dancing on the Bay.
